Pioneer SX 680 a good buy?

Found a Pioneer SX 680 locally. Needs some cosmetic attention to the wood but the lights all work. I have been told all channels work and no static between input modes etc basically a nice running and sounding machine. I offered $40 based on the cosmetic condition and what the seller states in running condition which i have no reason to believe is incorrect or false. He agreed to my offer. A good buy for a smaller vintage SX series? I have a Marantz SR1000 i bought not long ago and i love the thing, the sound is superb and i plan on using in our bedroom so i wanted another for the living room. I thought it was a good buy.

This vintage bug has got the better of me. All the AV and theater EQ is up for sale. I want it all gone. Even my wife commented on just how great the Marantz sounded

If it was in good shape electronically, I would not even hesitate at paying 40 bucks. That's just a little over a dollar per WPC.

The 680 is nice. My question for you is what's next? Pioneer SX-1980 or a Marantz 2385?

I am sure there will be a level of progression. Lets just say for right now a 680 fits my budget or comfort level. A 1280 or 2385 is a little out of range. Unless i find an absolutely smoking deal i doubt i will ever feel comfortable blowing a grand on a receiver.

Maybe $400 would be a level i could live with so that takes me out of the 1980/2385 League !

I picked up a working SX-780 here in Phoenix last year. I liked it alot ... until I acquired a (non-working) SX-1250. Now the 780 is just sitting on a shelf looking a bit wimpy. :D

The SX680 is a great little receiver. A buddy of mine gave me one a while back and I tried it in place of my Sansui 771 and the Pioneer is still there after quite a few months. It blows my 771 away in all aspects. I love my little 680:banana:

done.. its actually in great shape, some wood touch ups by the previous owner and so far so good. i will run it through the paces tomorrow.. thanks for all the input guys

couldn't be happier. Just also bought a very nice pair of EPI M70's to go with it for $25 this afternoon. I'm all in for $65. Sound on the 680 is excellent. Very impressed with the EPI's too. Again thanks all.

The EPI 70s are a great match with the pioneer. I have a pair myself and an sx-650. They're not together at the moment though. You did well in my book. :)
