Decisions decisions... SX-750 or SX-780

I have an opportunity to get either a SX-750 or a SX-780 from a seller or even both if I wanted (I wish, lol). Both units are supposedly in good condition,... just needs some cleaning.

Any known issues with either? Which would you prefer?

Ok... that's one vote for the 780.... anyone else want to put in their opinion?

Is there any known issues for the 750 or 780... does one perform better than the other?

I read somewhere that the 750 had the same internal specs as the 1250 except for the power output per channel... something like 50 wpc? Somehow I find that hard to believe but I don't know...

What about the functions? Are the the same? Any additional features of one over the other?
 
What does the 780 have? Would that account for the difference in the wpc ? I think the 780 is 45 wpc and the 750 is 50 wpc?
 
I have the 750 and, although it doesn't see much play time, is a good sounding unit even untouched. I don't have any experience with the 780 but I do like those meters! I also have an SX-890 which is the black dial version of the SX-880 and I believe it's 60wpc. It needs some work as it is rather distorted on the outputs when only peaks of 10wpc are showing on the meters. It also has a pretty hard turn on/off thump.

Sorry, lol. I voted for the 750 for a few reasons. It has a discrete output stage, unlike the 780. It also has 5 extra wpc, which is a moot point, but can't hurt. Also, I have owned 2 650s in the past and loved em both. Always wanted to try the 750. Plus, I had an 838 which was the best 50wpc I have heard so I am assuming the 750 is quite good also. Both are obviously great units. How much does the guy want for them?
 
Something I was wondering about was the power switch on the 750 as opposed to the 780.... I read a few posts about the power switch on the 750 going funky due to the fact that it controls On/Off, A, B, and A+B functions... whereas the 780 seems to just have a simple toggle switch for on/off....

Just trying to weight out all of the options before I decide to drop down the cash.....

The 750 does have the same specs as the famous 1250 of course less power and thats it:thmbsp: Forget the power meters your there to listen not watch the unit:music: One vote for the 750 ( happen to own a 750) $9.99 local GW store:banana:
 
I have both of them. The 780 is a nice receiver and has meters, everything is said already.
But I would also give my vote to the SX-750, discrete design, heavier transformer. Mine had a bad case and I reveneerd it look here
 
Ok... seems the 750 is edging the 780 out :) ... just wondering about the buttons and knobs, either or prone to failure?

Here's a pic I found of the 780 and the 750 ... any issues with that funky "fold down" area in the back where the inputs are to plugged in on the 750? Never saw one like that before...

No problem with the "fold down" area for the plugs.
I think the only reason was to have a simple design with the plugs directly on the main pcb board. So no need to have 90-deg connectors
