I bought a sx750 recently. $100, damaged vinyl, cracked glass, damaged dial cord, bent tuning shaft, problems with balance (poor sound when set to 0, like channels mixing with one in counterphase), damaged caps, noisy phono stage, static when flipping switches.
Started with gentle shower and brush with detergent. Then let it dry. Changed all caps, cleaned all pots and switches, even the power switch and bias trimpots, then tested them for continuity.
Surpsise - balance issues disappeared with recap. Most of elcaps were bad. 1uF instead of 100uF, rotten legs and more.
Did some wire management, resoldered lights, restringed the dial with nylon fishing cord, set bias voltage, realigned FM, it's good enough to finish working on internals.
Since it's fully working, I used hair dryer to help me remove old vinyl, then I used some filler and reveneered the cabinet with sandal wood engineered veneer. Finished with transparent oil.
