Pioneer SX-880 AM dead

I’ve recently acquired an 890, and it works well apart from the AM radio. Which is completely dead. FM works but needs realignment.
Is there anything obvious that might be at fault here?
Planning to recap it at some point but I haven’t done anything so far other than cleaning it up and treating the pots and switches to a bit of contact cleaner. I’ve had a cursory look for anything obvious, dry solders etc, but haven’t been able to spot anything.
Many thanks
Mike

880 or 890? In any case, as ivandezande says, check to confirm the AM tuner is getting power. Look for +13.5 volts on the tuner board terminal 3 when the mode switch is set to AM.

Im just waiting on some 220ohm 5w resistors to do the protection circuit mod, (incidentally, good or bad idea) so when I open it up again I’ll be attacking terminal 3 with a multimeter... It’s an 890, but as far as I understand the only difference was the black tuner face?

many thanks for your replies, and I’ll report back when I figure it out.
Cheers
Mike
