Pioneer SX-950 Tuning knob set screw stripped.

I just ran into this problem and i'll never touch that set screw again haha. Simply remove the 2 set screws (phillips) from the inside that are much easier. They hold the outer tuning knob shaft. Once these are removed, pull the outer knob with shaft out. Now you can pull the faceplate off (if you do the rest of the stuff). I suppose this method has a risk of losing the index of the tuning thread. I wasnt too worried about that. I just taped the inner part of the knob assembly (weight + thread shaft hunk) so i didnt damage it while it was decoupled from the knob.
Just one more thing. Theres a little nylon washer that will fall out. it goes around the shaft on the inside. Another member posted the possibility of taking it apart from the inside as i've described. Just wanted to explain in a bit of detail as it was fresh in my mind!

I have a set of hex star drivers where the star point is slightly tapered toward the tip. when I get one of those stripped allen head set screws, one of the star driver bits can be pressed in so it fits tight enough to get the set screw to break loose.
The set screws on the Sony TA-1080 knobs are not allen head set screws. They have little slots for a flat head screw driver.
