I recently acquired by SX-950 and want to know what I can do about the high distortion the and low volume. When I hook my Android phone up to accessory it sounds good at low volume. If I turn it up past a quarter turn it starts popping really bad. The FM is very fuzzy also and very low sound even if turned up high. Please advise thank you.

Try turning the volume down on your phone, you may be overloading the input of the Pioneer.
Has the unit been cleaned/serviced/adjusted ?
Where are the Bass and Treble controls set ?
Is the loudness on ?
Is one of the tape monitors engaged ?
What speakers are you using ?

If you go to YouTube you will find someone using Detoxit which is an actual product to clean a pioneer receiver, just make sure to get a box of Q-tips and a spray can of Deoxit D5 prior to checking out the video. The guy does a real good job of throughly cleaning the receiver. Detoxit greatly improve the capabilities of the circuitry. While you are cleaning, look for anything that has signs of leakage. This forum has many articles sharing information on the same receiver and it would behoove you to read them and get a better idea of what you are dealing with. Just remember, the difficulties a person has in doing things is only the lack of knowledge and the lack of heart.

CRC QD Electronics cleaner is an excellent substitute for DeOxit. Available at most auto parts and home improvement stores.

Follow it up with a shot of contactcleaner/lube from Radio Shack. Use sparingly, a few drops is all you need, any more gets messy.
