I recently acquired a Pioneer SX990 along with a set of 8ohm monitors & I'm looking for some advice on where to start with diagnostics.
The right & left channels are working on both outputs A & B. The left channel on both outputs (A & B) has a bit of static in the 40% - 70% volume range, this is what I want to diagnose.
Another problem (in both the L & R channels) after some time (1 - 3 min) the sound becomes distorted, almost like it is underwater & muddy (best way I can describe it : )).
When turning the receiver off and on again the distorted sound is gone, only to come back later.
I would appreciate any ideas on what this could be, what to check and where to start?
Background:
- I cleaned all the pots and switches with contact cleaner (I did not disassemble the pots - as I did not want to remove the front plate)
- Cleaned all the terminals and connections that looked like they needed some love.
- I have some electronics knowledge and decent access to tools.
