Hi everyone my first post here. I.m the proud owner of a pioneer sx1010...just need to ask some advice and hope i.m posting in the right place. A cple of the front pushbuttons are making a popping sound through one speaker ( a common problem i understand) so just wondered if it was something major or a minor fault. The noises do go after the unit has been on a while. Its still under warranty so the guy i bought it from will fix it, but just wanted to know if it might lead to other major problems. The only other thing thats wrong with it is the black square that surrounds the tuning dial has worn in a cple of places so its showing the silver underneath. Thanks guys.

You mean the black finish is wearing off the fascia surrounding the tuning dial??? That's considered normal wear and tear. Would you gripe about a cosmetic fault on a 45 year old Morris Minor with the original finish???? Consider it patina, or war wounds from all the heavy petting it's gotten over the years. Some guys take a Black Marker and give it a few coats, but it's a different color black and the marker shows up as a different shade.

As for the switches. Which ones pop the speaker? Be specific. It could be as simple as needing another cleaning with DeOxit (or I believe it's called Cramolin over in the Realm). Make damned sure you follow it up with DeOxit Faderlube or Shield for lubrication. If it still pops after cleaning, then there is a circuit problem. If it's under warranty, take it back and explain the EXACT Problem and when he hands it back over to you check it out before you leave. If everything is fine, take it home. If not have him fix it.
 
Yes i do mean the surround has worn away which is not a major issue but the guy i bought it from says it was still covered in protective plastic and the power cord was still tied up so he feels it cldve been new and un used so certainly not war wounds from heavy use as you put it. As for the noisy buttons and being specific i.m not sure it makes a difference which ones they are as i just wanted to know if it cld be a serious issue so i might be able to tell the guy before he fixes it. Thanks anyway.
 
Welcome to AK, Jason!! I have that beauty. Lovingly restored by our own Zebulon. While I love the sound, those push buttons and the usual oxidation with switches is a never-ending battle.

Hello, many thanks and yes its a lovely piece of audio equipment and as for the sound it totally trounced my modern roksan kandy k2 in all departments. The noisy buttons i guess at present are just a minor issue....or so i hope as the noise does go after a while and i do hope to sort out the minor cosmetic issue as the rest of the unit is and looks brand new. May i ask who the restorer is of your unit and where hes located for future reference. Many thanks again.
 
Hi again guys...i now have had the front switches cleaned on my mint as new sx1010 and also the tuning dial surround painted and now my unit is absolute mint. The tech opened her up for me to look inside and it looks brand new it really does. So got her home yesterday and as usual sounds awsome but thought i.d try the headphone amp...which by the way sounds amazing....only thing is when i plug in the headphones the sound was still coming through the speakers....any advice on this guys ?
 
That’s normal I believe if I recall correctly if you can disable the speaker a or b headphones will work on its own
 
Hi thanks its sorted now...i.m just used to modern amps where ive plugged in phones and the sound automatically cuts out...never had an amp like this with 3 speaker connections and so many in puts etc...thanks for the help
