Kenwood KR-9600 / Pioneer SX-950 / Sony STR-GX10ES
Hi all,
Have a pioneer sx2500 on fantastic cosmetic condition that plays wonderfully when working properly. However, it has intermittent problems with both channels on all inputs. I figure that since it’s on all channels problem likely lies in the main amp unit or protection unit (AWM-004 in my unit). The problems I’m experiencing are as follows
Right channel: mostly good. Upon powering on, rice crispies, seems to go away when music is playing. Sometimes this rice crispies sound is totally absent when channel works properly. Intermittently dead channel. Can always faintly hear music if volume is turned up.
Left channel: Also mostly good. But often time will go dead randomly while playing or immediately once powered up. Similar to the right channel, when volume is turned up can slightly hear music out of this “dead” channel when it is “dead.”
Common problems: turning up the volume will sometimes cause the channels to get back to their baseline but this doesn’t always work and seems to work less often for the right channel vs the left.
These problems are incredibly frustrating because this unit truly sounds SO GOOD when working properly. It sometimes will play for several hours without issue, but powering it on sometimes I wants to act up.
Tools at my disposal: I have a multimeter to take measurements. Also have a scope but have not actually used it in any real application. Have an soldering iron and can desolder/solder back in components. I’ve already cleaned all of the control contacts so I’m certain I’ve ruled that out.
