Thanks for any insight, I’m in the Detroit market if that makes any difference.

Looks like a nice, clean unit. It appears to already have LEDs installed, as the original incandescent bulbs produce a yellowish glow.
Here's mine with cool white LEDs.

Dont do the led upgrade\downgrade.It wont have the original warm glow in most cases.I had a Kenwood that was missing most lights replaced with the closest to original and it wasn't even close.I dont like it.

I see them go for around $150 usually. I found a pristine one for $13 at goodwill. One of my sons is using it. The only thing I did to it was replace the power supply capacitors and add a heatsink to that hot running regular.
As for the bulbs, the incandescent bulbs get hot enough that they burn the cabinet underneath and eventually the vaneer gets discolored. The one I had was already turning black on the underside. The cool white LED's do help to keep the heat down and draw less current that = less heat for the power transformer and components in the lamp circuit. I agree the stock bulbs look best in these, but the cool white LED's aren't bad looking either.

Not around where I live. Not saying it is impossible, but when people sell functional vintage silver face unit they look at ebay sales and price it on the high end and eventually sell them for that or a little less. Big name brands fetch premium numbers around here.

The STK's used in these get a bad rap around here since the only ones available are all fakes. There are a few people that hord that particular STK, but they are hard to find. I thought the SX-780 sounded pretty nice. I was surprised the phono section sounded as good as it did also. These STK's hold up very well as long as you don't drive them to clipping or cross any speaker wires while on. I don't know why some people will mess with speaker wires in general with equipment turned on anyway.

I had it powered on for a week and the top was cool, not even a warm spot over the power supply. I prefer the original lights to the LED's, but "everybody's doing it" made me wonder if there was a benefit. I have a couple hundred in it, but the thing is it isn't the one I want forever. I prefer the looks of this but the sound and feel of my QX949. I'm buying a 1050 as well, but I'm thinking I'll keep searching until I find a 1280 I can put my hands on. The 949 feels luxurious, where the 780 feels utilitarian. Without having better words for it.. Anyway, thank you all very much for your insight.

If you plan to sell it some day, I would say check voltages but don't stick a bunch of money in it. They just don't bring that much.

Regarding upgrades? I like the 1050, would definately say that for SQ, power and reliability the SX1250 is head and shoulders above the 1280. The 1280 does win on looks however, the meters and colored function lights. Purely SQ though? I prefer the SX-1010. Yes I've had multiple exceptional examples of each as well as testing them back-to-back when new, this is my experience and opinion.

Interesting, thank you for sharing that. Truth be told, I don’t need the higher wattage. The 45wpc seems to be efficient enough, but I really like the ability to run more sets of speakers. I have several sets now but I want to run multiple stacks of advents. Just for shits and giggles.

In that case, the SX-1010's slightly less powerful brother is the best SQ for the buck IMO (SX-939). If you can find an SX-1010 (especially a later S/N) for not too much money however, it's really a great receiver, 9/10ths of the SX-1050 (but doesn't have the big 4-Ohm power that ONLY THE SX-1050 and SX-1250 CAN DISH OUT!).

Run them series.
The 780 is a good receiver, but it's one of those best bought for $200 in good working condition and used as is.
The numbers don't support restoration then resale at this time.

Yes run in series. If you want to add speakers add another amp.. I would look for an integrated amp. You can connect TapeRec to AUX. Then **** and giggle lots.
