Hi all,
I own an SX 950 and the tuner section seems to be somewhat warmer sounding than the phono. Also the dial lights seem to be alot dimmer than an SX 750 that I own. The SX 950 doesn't seem to sound as good at low volume as an SX 828 that I have, but really comes alive at medium to high volume. Are these things normal? Or does it need service? If so what kind? Thanks alot for any input..

I don't know about the other stuff, but the SX-828 is probably going to outdo the 950. Just my opinion. It just wont have the same power. I had an "outdated, unused, ugly SX-6000" one time and it sounded so good. There's just something about the early 70's Pioneers that just naturally sound warm and rich.
 
Your so right ukfan4sure. I've already had some work done on the 950, but the only place it shines is at volumes that aren't used 99% of the time. I haven't found anything that will outdo the 828 at steady low to mid volume. It doesn't even sound like a stereo, it's more like a live concert. The music just seems to surround you, I can listen to my 828 for hours and never get tired of listening. The 950 is a nice unit, but the 828 is in a league of it's own. If I had to describe it in a word it would be (presence), like your in the room with the musicians.
 
Has the 950 been fully restored? I have a 950 and fully restored 737 and both sound very similiar on the same speakers/sources. The 950 puts out more so it wins in terms of blasting the system at ear piercing levels--which is perhaps 1% of my listening time. The 950 wins in terms of the wood veneer, but the 737 has that retro blue glow going for it.
