I would like some help troubleshooting my Pioneer VSX-4900S A/V receiver from 1991, please. I currently have it hooked up to bookshelf monitors. When I try to play standard stereo, no sound comes out. The only way I can get sound is by turning on Simulated Surround or Simulated Studio. and that just comes out of both speakers as mono, same channel from both according to my ears.
I tested other speakers with this receiver, and always get the same result. I tested CD, V-Aux, and Tape, all with the same result. Doing a sound test in Windows, it played both left and right out of both speakers at once. Am I doing something wrong, or is this a problem with my receiver?
Alternatively, would taking advantage of the Pro Logic virtual surround and getting 2 rear speakers and a center speaker allow me to get proper front stereo in addition to the other channels?
