Pitch problem with Technics SL-B2

Hi gang. I am looking for some help with my technics sl-b2 turntable. I know it's not the greatest tt technics ever made, but it's my baby. Just the other day the dial that controls the pitch will not maintain a consistent speed and it is as though there is no "zero" or correct spot where the strobe lights appear stationary. The belt is fairly new and I just re-attached it just to make sure so I am pretty sure the problem is with the post that control pitch. I have looked at this blog post: http://recordreport.blogspot.com/2011/05/fixing-unstable-turntable-speed.html for help but my sl-b2 does not look the same inside and so I am unsure how to dioxit the pots on the sl-b2. Anyone have this table or familiar with its guts?

If your belt is still good, a little De-oxit will sort you out. I think there is one screw holding the speed adjust potentiometer in place after you take the bottom panel off (be sure to remove the platter and counterweight and secure the tonearm). a quick spray inside the pot and work the adjustment back and forth for a minute or so. Then spray it again and repeat. Check your speed now.
 
If THAT doesn't do the trick, you'll need to de-oxit the two pots that are shown in this picture. You'll need to re-calibrate your speed afterwards, but it's nothing to fear. Just start with the pitch adjust centered (the one on top of the deck, it doesn't have to be perfect, just close). From there its just being patient. adjust a little,check the speed, adjust a little, check the speed. Adjust the 45 pot first .s-l300.jpg
 
danke, fritz! your advice was spot-on, brother. the only hitch was that the one screw holding the plate over the pot did not budge at all after i removed the screw. so i craned my neck and sprayed deoxid in there somewhat awkwardly, but effectively. thank you again for your quick and lucid reply. happy listening to you! :beerchug:
