PL-41's and Dustcovers???????????

I have a pretty nice PL-41 that is all original except for the Pioneer logo and dust cover that are missing. I see you can get a cover for it, but it doesn't look like it comes with hinges. I've looked for hinges on that auction site but have never found any. Did a search in Bartertown Parts and came up empty.

Are PL-41 hinges unobtanium?

I think they are the same on a few models in this era. I had another Pioneer table that had the same prop and hinges, but a cheaper smoke plastic cover.

They are designed so that there is a position where the cover easily slides off to one side, hence the covers going missing.

If you keep an eye on ebay, you should be able to get a complete table for about $100 that you can get all the parts you need from, and sell the remaining parts to get your $100 + shipping back. The regularity of inexpensive examples on eBay is probably why values aren't higher for good ones.

Tell me about "EPI Prototype 100s", sounds like some history there.

it would seem to be pretty easy to adapt later spring-loaded hinges to the PL-41 as long as you got a complete set, including the mounting brackets that the hinges slip into and out of. And that way you wouldn't have to find the prop too.

Putting the other hinges on a PL-41 cover, or using the cover that is native to the hinges?

Ideally the former but, assuming another dustcover had suitable dimensions, you could use a non-PL-41 dustcover.

I just got these EPI speakers at a garage sale - the guy who is keeping the torch lit over at EPI saw a picture and said they were the earliest EPI's he'd ever seen - earlier than anything they produced - and he was there making speakers then.

I think a patient month looking at ebay will turn a complete one up.
