Pl-530 mechanism issues

Hi, I've got a nice PL-530 that has been in great working order for some time but has started giving me some issues. Auto-return works, but, the auto-return and stop button are very delayed in performing their action. I chalked this up to old grease in the mechanisms. I've shot a short video in which you can see the mechanism gets hung up. I need recommendations on what to use and where to lubricate.

Another issue that has just started, which I feel might be related, is the sound for the first track doesn't start until 25-35 seconds into play. When the sound does start it's a little broken up but then comes on full. Although letting it spin for about that amount of time and dropping the arm manually does shorten that time, it still continues to be about 10 seconds before any sound comes out.

Go to the Vinyl Engine website for the service manual. You need to create an account which is simply making up a username and password. Its free and has a wealth of information. After signing in, click on the Library tab and find the Pioneer link. Scroll to the PL530, In there you will find the service manual. Its a PDF download of about 50 pages.

I suspect that the two micro switches (red/black in color) might be related to your symptoms. Check to see how they are interacting to the cam. Look at pages 40,41 & 42. It might help.

It know it may sound funny but try this: Set the record size at 7". Raise the arm lift so the tonearm doesn't lower. Press Start and when the tonearm reaches midpoint of the platter unplug the power. Slowly rotate the platter by hand Counter Clock wise 2 full rotations. Plug it back in and hit the start button again. Might help. It worked for me once.

Other then that, I got nothing.

I agree with the delay in sound. 2 sets of point contacts (similar to operation as a set of distributor points). They get dirty. Clean them with DeOxit. Wet some paper strips with Deoxit and pull one way between the points. New strip every pass. when the strips come out clean, they should be cleaned up so contact allows signal to go thru to the receiver or amps phono preamp.

Clean out all the old grease and replace with regular old White lithium grease. Zoom turbine oil (get it at Ace Hardware) for the oiling points. Make sure any pulleys and belts for the mechanism are clean and dry (no grease).
