PL-71 vs PL-530

I picked up a PL-71 last night. It looks barely used in the box. I set it up and was planning to replace my PL-530. I really didn't notice that the PL-71 was a full manual TT.

I do like the real wood plinth compared to the wood vinyl on the PL-530. My plan was to strip the PL-530 and put wood veneer on it. The PL-71 cosmetically it is awesome and sounds the same, but I like the full automatic capabilities of the PL-530. I think the PL-71 sounds better.

Comments on which one to keep? I'm not keeping both.

Both are great tables, but I think the PL-71 has the better tonearm. I say keep them both and from looking at your signature sell off one of your Technics in favor of the pioneer. While the Technics are nice tables and from personal experience from owning and hearing several Technics the PL-71 probably sounds better than them. Granted, being fully manual can be a pain for some but I do find the sonic qualities out of it more beneficial.

The PL-71 definitely looks better than the PL-530. The 530's plastic cover need to be replaced. Too many scuffs over the years. The PL-71 is perfect. The PL-71 sounds better but it does have a Shure V15 Type IV cartridge, the PL-530 has a Pickering, not sure of the model.
 
That is a great cartridge, my PL-71 has a V15 III with Jico SAS. Like I said, if it were me I would sell one of the Technics in favor of keeping the higher end pioneer turntables.

Well that's kind of subjective. I like the real wood veneer on the PL-71, but I'm not a fan of the button control plate.

I really like the automatic feature of the PL-530, as you mentioned. That way, if I'm busy doing something, I don't feel like I have to go "rescue" my needle from the blank space on the album when it's done.

I've owned the both, and I can't tell you which sounded better; to me that gets in too deep for my ears.

Save and get the 550 or 570. Then you have it all (except real veneer). :thumbsdn:
 
It's like turntables dropping out of the sky this weekend. I just picked up 40 records from a yard sale and the guy gave me an SL-Q300, SL-Q200, SL-BD1 and a BSR Quanta 400. They need a little work but nothing I can't fix. okay, I'll just fix and sell all of these and keep the two Pioneers.
 
Me, I'd keep the 71. But, then I agree with the others - settle on Pioneer and loose the Technics. You will not happen on a pristine PL-71 any time soon. They are not easy to come by - anyway around here :(

They are very respectable tables.
 
Did you get those records at the yard sale in Abingdon? I think his name is Paul.

I missed it and was tempted to go over and take a look at his clearing the garage sale but the wife would kill me if I brought too many LPs home.

Yes, I did. Nothing too spectacular in the record selection. Mostly 70's 80's rock. Nothing from the 60's, what I was really looking for. I did pick up a few records I didn't have or ones that are better than I had.

Just the night before, I was listening to Fleetwood Mac on the PL-71 and reading online about them. I had a Bob Welch album (Three Hearts) but never listened to it. I didn't know he was from FLeetwood Mac. I listened to it and wow you can really hear Christy McVie and Stevie Nicks. So, now I wanted Bob Welch's other album and he did have it. So, all was good. He had many many boxes of records. I brought home 41.
