PL-A35D Ser. II tone arm wont go down to LP

I recently purchased this PL-A35D Ser. II turntable and I can't figure out why the tone arm wont go down all the way? I loosened the arm adjustment screw (Last pic) and the arm rest is all the way down I'm guessing? The stylus is about 3/8" or so above the LP. The armrest is loose enough that you can feel it bottoming out. I still have to go thru the whole thing motor, spring foams, spindle , clean and detail etc. Any thoughts? Thanks! ; )

Honestly I don't know that much about this model turntable. I bought it because I have an all Pioneer system and currently have a PL-15D Ser. II I can take any pics that would help? Here's what I have now! Thanks for the help! ; )

Well from what I read, yes it has a separate motor for the tonearm. Beautiful table by the way.. if u haven't already go to vinyl engine and print out the service manual. It's free but you'll have to register on there..

Thanks! Yes I am already a member there as well! The fact that it has a separate motor for the tone arm would that mean it doesn't react until it is turned on? I was just trying to set the VTF on it. But like I said it wont go down any further that in the pic? Thanks! ; )

I've been reading old threads, I'll keep poking around. See what I can find. I have just acquired a pl530 and the cutout switch is acting a bit funny. I'm off work Thurs and I'm tearing it down and good general cleaning getting out all the old hardened grease which does wonders

O.K! Thanks! I'm finishing up a Pioneer SX-9000 receiver that has been a bit problematic for me. Mostly my mistakes and a few from the P.O. parts for it will be here soon! I'm just sneaking up on the turntable while I'm waiting! Thanks again! ; )

That's what I was wondering because the P.O. said he'd been playing it up to the day I bought it from him. I have yet to do that I will check that out tonight! I have always been used to PL-12D's and PL-15D's etc. I guess then I'd have to set the VTF with it on but unplugged? Something still doesn't sound right! Thanks again! ; )

There is a cam-like device under the post that pushes the tone arm up. It can’t drop until the cam rotates out of the way under ac power.
