Plain Audio vs. Digital Interconnects for Audio

Hi all,

While this may be obvious to most of you, I thought I'd ask anyways since I don't know the answer and I did some searching and back-reading. Can/should a well terminated digital audio cable be used as an analog audio interconnect? I'm referring to 75 ohm RCA terminated cables, regardless of manufacturer.

thanks

Yep. If it can transmit one form of info, why not the other? We're dealing with low level signals here..

I'll repeat the "yes" answer of others, and go further. Using a cable labeled as digital for an analog interconnect is no issue. But, using an analog cable for digital interconnection is probably not advised. Most likely it will work and you'll question my reasoning. But, it is not the best situation and could impact sonics, to a small degree. Nothing will get damaged, just things may work better if you didn't use an analog cable in digital situations.

Maybe. :)

There's plenty of good info at Blue Jeans Cable, Rod Elliott's site, and at Audioholics.

This should get you started:

Hint hint...

Composite video cables work quite well for digital audio cables and usually are cheaper. They also typically work quite well for analog audio interconnects too.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. The reason I asked is Ias I want to reconfigure my 2-channel vintage setup I went through my wiring boxes and somehow I've ended up with extra digital interconnects as opposed tp analog.
