Planar sr 2040 info. needed

I just got an Electrohome Planar sr 2040 working - DeoxIT did a great job. I need to know the specs, especially the ohms for speakers. I have a pair of Canton Fonum 251 speakers rated at 4 ohms and don't know if the Planar can handle them. Does anyone have manuals for this receiver? Reading here I saw it may have a Hafler rear speaker capability.

I'm in the same boat.
Got a Planar sr-2100 receiver a couple years ago and no info,
no manuals.
Trying to find any info took hours of searching online and turns up nothing.

PS: the sr 2100 sounded absolutely fantastic when I first listened to it.
Apparently these where Electrahome's attempt at entering the high end sound along the lines of Marantz/Pioneer quality...very well built and heavy.

I agree with your ears. This little receiver sounds as good as a Marantz 2216b I just refurbished. I'm surprised at the size of the power transformer for only 20 wpc. Now that it's working, I don't want to hurt it with low impedence speakers if it isn't specified for that load.
 
I have nothing to offer other than to say congrats. I've been wanting a Planar since I found out about them last year. I'd love to have an all Canadian setup.

Just hooked up the sr 2040 to my Nova 7bs to see how speakers of the same era sound. With the classical station at about half volume in my lab, it's awesome! Too much for a small room. No need for loudness contour. I'm having a hard time turning the receiver off to continue cleaning and reassembly.
 
Cleaning: found answer

After cleaning the "gunk" coating the rear of the 2040 I answered my question - 4 ohms. Whatever had been deposited on the receiver "ate" into the power transformer paint and some other parts inside. The rear panel, after cleaning, could be read and the output load values are visible - lesson learned. After running the receiver for quite a while and turning it off, I heard some "clicks" in the speakers. Any ideas why this is happening?

The capacitors in the power supply circuit appear to be getting quite warm. I'm thinking a recap is in order. I'll set her aside until I have the caps in stock. I don't want to stress out this rare unit.
