I recently purchased a Pioneer Elite DV 07 with the only stated failure that the door would not open. Feeling pretty safe with the discription and the door being an easy repair, i awaited its arrival with optimism. Considering I've had a run of bad luck for 20 years, I can't imagine why. Well, arrival was delayed about 5 days due to the most recent blizzard. Well packaged, I fought to get it plugged in as quickly as possible. The door moved with ease by hand and the only reason it wouldn't open was because the carosel wasn't moving at all. I tried to move it by hand, it moved but took a bit of effort and felt like something was under the tray. I'm thinking a child put something inside so I gently lifted the tray hoping something would roll out. No luck. Disassembly
showed an amatuer at work, with burrs on screws and grease where none should be. It was obvious to me that the tray was not reinstalled properly as after I unscrewed the bottom section, the tray moved easily. Also. the tightening of the plastic that holds the bottom section together broke the pivot for the third gear. My plan was to glue and screw, but I have no idea what type of plastic it is. It is black and slippery shiny, not hard but stiff with some flexibility. I'm thinking it my be styrene. The break is clean but no straight. i've bought a couple of glues but you really only get one chance to get it right. Any one know what type plastic Pioneer might have used back in the day when this was a well respected dvd/cd player?
