Plastic restore

Good morning everyone,
Quick question, does anyone have any idea if there is something I could use to restore the luster to the black plastic on my Garrard synchro-lab 95b.
This turntable is the plastic base model and the plastic has an ashen color and is dull.
I really do not want to disassemble and clear coat if I don’t have to.
Any info would be great, thanks joe

Try a rubbing compound, like the headlight lens kits.

Test, first, on an inconspicuous location.

Household items- might try a little "Pledge" or similar. Ive used it on all sorts of surfaces without ill results and on plastics with good results.

My first choice would be car detailing stuff like Maguiars Hyperdressing (or similar) as it works great on plastics. Lots of automotive products designed to restore dulled plastics too. Bob

I thought about using dressing or polish of some sort but don’t want to be left with greasy finish(dust attractor).
I am going to do some research on plastic restoration, if I come up with anything good I will pass it on!
It sounds incredible so I am not too concerned. To have a 50 year old turntable that works like new, plastic fading is the least of my concerns.

Not being familiar with that particular turntable can I ask what the texture of the plastic is like?
I would generally go with something in the https://www.novuspolish.com/ line, but if the surface has a ‘rough’ texture to it I might consider something more like a hard surface cleaner than a polish.

I found this home remedy amusing. "Looks great but its making me hungry!"

"Home Remedy
A tried and tested home remedy is peanut butter. Wash the plastic with soap and water to remove all dirt and grime from its surface. Let it dry naturally. Take the peanut butter and spread generously on the surface. Let it rest for about 15 to 20 minutes. Wipe with soft towel thoroughly. It restores the shine and color to any type of plastic."

Essentially many oils(even peanut butter oil,lol!) turn the faded plastic back to their original luster. Trick is using the right one Like I mentioned pledge or similar seems to work well enough on faded plastics if its not to severe. Non greasy too. Bob

I have to be honest, I enjoy peanut butter way to much to waste it polishing turntable!!
But if I know my OCD self, I will probably try it tonight.
Thank you, I wonder if I could get peanut oil and wipe that on?

Lol, honestly I would spray a bit of furniture polish on a rag and try that first. If that doesn't do it I suppose a bit of PBO on a rag. I cant imagine it hurting the plastic though it was more of an amusing post than an actual suggestion. Fwiw- I am always looking for stuff around the house I can use before I run out and buy things if possible.Bob

I was thinking of using PB rust penetrant, I have been using it under the hood of the car for years to detail plastic and rubber and have never seen any side effects. I.E.- drying or staining
I will test out a couple of products and let you know which one works the best.
I wonder if the “back to black” preserver for car trim would work?
Again, if this is my biggest problem then I am doing ok!!

Meguiars Mirror Glaze Vinyl and Rubber Conditioner #40--has UV protectant to prevent the recurrence of the discoloration that you are seeing now.

I use Micro-Mesh to restore scratched and hazy plastic watch crystals. Some crystals are so hazy, you can't see the watch dial. Micro-Mesh restores them to like-new condition. Hobby stores and possibly Amazon has it.
