In my quest to find a decent subwoofer for a reasonable price I have acquired a free Energy EPS-100. While it had it's issues it proudly donated it's repaired plate amp along with the part of the box that once contained it. Currently it is powering the teo 8in drivers in a Cambridge Soundworks p500. I also obtained the p500 for nothing because the control module was missing.
I was wondering if there is an adapter that would allow me to plug a regular subwoofer cable into the rj11 jacks on the p500's bash amplifier or if any of you might know how to wire a homemade crossover cable because my brain doesn't seem to comprehend it. I have a box of several hundred feet of cat5e, but after looking at the pcb I can't determine which pins are supposed to be carrying what signal. I would think 2 pins are hot and 2 are common but I don't truly know. Or is there a way to determine which is which where I could simply remove said jacks and solder some rca type connections in their place?
I plan on leaving the Energy amplifier it in it's own enclosure for use in situations like my current one where I need a semi discretely packaged amplifier. The problem with the amp when I recieved it was that a set of the spring clips for speaker level inputs were smashed and the metal components were causing a ground feedback loop so I simply removed that set from the pcb. The other set of speaker level connections are not directly soldered to the board and I was contemplating wiring the output from the amplifier to those clips.
My question here is should I replace the double spring clips with a set of single posts so that it is absolutely clear to anyone hookig up speakers that these are running the same amplifier channel, because with a pair of spring clip connectors someone may hook two seperate 8ohm subwoofers causing them to be wired in parallel thus presenting a 4ohm load to the amplifier and possibly melting it.
Once I figure out exactly how to finish wiring my amp in a box and I get some extra time it will get a new not beat to hell enclosure, if I wanted to have an intake and exhaust fan on the new enclosure where is the best place to pull the 12v from, or best place to put a thermal whatsit that would provide up to 12v for maximum fan speed at temps high enough to warrant it while providing either no voltage or the minimum voltage required for the fan to spin at low temperatures and what would the correct name for said whatsit?
