Platter Rubbing - Pioneer PL-514

Pie Near

New Member
Hi,
This one is baffling me a bit so I thought I'd ask the experts...
I have a Pioneer PL-514 which I acquired recently. The platter is rubbing on the black metal plate directly underneath.
After a bit of investigation i came to the conclusion that I must have faulty main bearing spindle or platter.
I purchased another main spindle and bearing to try and it was the same.
Then I found a platter for this turntable and tried that; still the same.
So, two different spindles, two different platters and it is still rubbing.
Any ideas??
I cant imagine the black plate is bent out of shape and I don't think the metal base plate that the bearing attaches to is out of shape either.
I was thinking of getting a slightly bigger ball bearing to raise the spindle but then that's going to put other things out of alignment.
Anyway, any help much appreciated with this annoying problem!
Regards,

I would expect you need to replace a bearing and or thrust plate at the bottom of the spindle well.
