I just got my new SOTA Satellite in from Ebay. The seller has a business restoring audio equipment, knows what he is talking about, and had a lot of positive feedback on audiophile turntable he had sold. I went into the sale expecting no problems.
Skip to present day. The table arrived, packing was excellent. The platter was removed, and there were layers and layers of packing material protecting every single part of it. At the time it was impressive(it took me over an hour to unwrap it!) but now I've realized why it was packed so well. The seller did not have any of the original shipping or transit screws for the turntable. In the manual for SOTA's Jewel table(Manuals for this brand seem rarer than hen's teeth and the seller didn't have one of course) three shipping bolts for the suspension and two transit screws to protect the bearing are mentioned.
The suspension was not setup at the time of delivery despite the seller's claim of doing a tune-up on the table before it shipped out. Aren't SOTAs usually set from the factory and only adjusted every decade or so? On the 45 setting the belt went off the bottom of the sub-platter so I lowered it. I then proceeded to adjust both the feet and suspension to get the plinth and sub-assemblies level.
At that point I put on the platter and turned it on. That's when I noticed the wobble. It's nowhere near as bad as the various videos you'll see on youtube but it is noticeable none-the-less. That brings me to my question, Is it faulty? How much wobble should one reasonable expect from a turntable, if any at all? Neither of my cheaper Duals wobble at all so I'm a bit disappointed my new turntable does. Am I over-reacting or should I send the table back(or try and get a new platter off the seller)?
For clarification, the wobble is only there when the platter is on the table. the subplatter as well as the spindle sit perfectly flat, they don't even look as if they are turning.
