Playback house brand receiver, looking for information please

Does anyone know the manufacturer of Playback receivers? Playback was a regional stereo store in the midwest. I’m hoping someone knows who built their house brand units. Thanks!

I have no clue, but that looks like a Panasonic-ish, or even a Pioneer-ish style (cabinet appearance).

Those exact knobs and flat switches have been used in other low-end receivers I've had by other makers. Probably generic parts used to keep costs down.

Probably more like "common" switches as opposed to "generic". Black levers just weren't as "expensive" as plated or coated, but the switch itself the same internally.

I bought these two about five years ago. The receiver is long gone.

How did the receiver sound?

I used the receiver for about a year and a half in my basement workshop with several different pairs of speakers. Overall, it sounded like many of the low watt receivers I've had. Not bad at all for a house-branded unit.
