I have a Teac X2000R and am having problems with the play back. When recording the left and right channel meters are exact, but in playback or tape monitor during recording the levels are not. During forward playback the left chanell is 5-6 db lower and in reverse playback the right chanell is 5-6 db lower. I cleaned and demagnetized the heads as I always do and even changed the drive belt. The same problem exists when I play back a tape recorded on another deck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My guess is that the heads are still dirty. Use a magnifier and strong light to re-examine the head surfaces. If still dirty, use a strong solvent like acetone to clean.
