Playboy After Dark, 1968, Deep Purple and Hugh Hefner

my favorite was the cognitive dissonance of the Grateful Dead with Hugh M. Hefner on the program, doing songs from their psychedelic zenith, aoxomoxoa. Read the back story in the liner notes to the remastered/expanded aoxomoxoa released by Rhino some years back - some person or persons in the Dead's entourage have long been rumored to have, perhaps chemically, "helped things along" a bit - replacing the manufactured bacchanalia with a little bit of the real thing :-)

I saw Deep Purple that year (1968) when they opened for Cream. One of the highlights of their set was a version of John Lennon's "Help" that was really amazing. A great band, then and now.

Lennon recorded a version that song with one of his old bands, as I recall.

I remember seeing that show when it was on the air. Funny how things that are the same can seem to change, with the passage of years. But some things don't: I still think a few of those girls would be nice to have as house guests (Well, if I weren't already married! :D)

So how many units in that wall of audio gear behind them could you identify? (After all, this IS AK! :D)

Thanks for the post.
I have always preferred early Purple over the later incarnations. Especially their ST Album. It's a classic.
