Playing mp3s etc through your stereo system

I have a very large collection of mp3s that form my favourite music. I had been using a little ipod to play through my favorite pieces with the earphone output. I wanted something more directed directly to this problem of playing our digital collection through our carefully assembled sound system. I ordered what looked like the only thing available from Amazon.

It is cheap and works very well. The storage is from a 32 GB card I plugged in. It has a remote to jump around and even adjust the amplitude of the line level output. I highly recommend this. I realize that purists will probably want to criticize the quality from mp3s. However, it really works for me. It was the best 23 bucks I have spent recently. I am going to buy two more for other systems in my home.

You could have spent $5 for a 3.5mm to RCA and hooked yiur player directly to your system.

Don't worry about the purists, sometimes you need to listen to music and gadgets like these are one of the ways, we all know the quality can stink. This style has been around a long time, I've got something similar in a cassette case that works with cassette decks or portables, unfortunately they also don't sound very good.

I've bought some cheap laptops, new and used and kind of like having a graphic interface, it make putting together playlists easily and they tend to be a step up sonically but these days I'm grabbing vinyl and cassettes more and more.

Not terrible.

I am in a position to get cast off computers, laptops and tablet devices frequently.

I have several in use and a stockpile of replacements.

Even low computing power and old (my oldest is Win 2000) machines do well with audio, sometimes after they're cleaned up.

Most are running an old, free version of Music Match for the indexing and playlisting, although I usually just search my file folders to find songs I want to hear and stack them up manually.
MM adds a right click "enqueue" feature.

It absolutely IS nice to have folder and file view if you have a sizable collection rather than having to use the "next" button hundreds of times,or trying to use a scrolling, one lone display to navigate 3 deep folder levels.

I use Volumio on RaspberryPi ZeroW with a DAC. The sound is very good. I really doubt I could tell the difference between a CD player and this playing a wav file. I listen to some radio streams and I think the quality is actually better than FM. Especially AAC encoded streams.

I used Music Match for years, I really loved that program when it was fully supported but after seeing everyone using Foobar 2000 in Japan I switched from Media Player (2006?).

I listen to the radio a ton, I'm starting to wonder if streaming is a better source than over-the-air FM. We have a few good stations but most are compressed like crazy and sound horrible, I'm wondering if they're trying to ween us off of over the air.
