Playstation 2 as CD player

MarantZappa

WOOD-GRAIN VINYL VENEER
The only CD player I've ever had hooked up to my Marantz is a Sony Playstation 2. I like it because I can also use it for DVDs (mostly concerts and such, but movies too) and the occasional video game, all in the one AUX jack. It seems to work very nicely for playing CDs, and only on occasion has some trouble reading CD-Rs, etc. I've never compared it to anything else, though, so I was wondering if I could get some opinions on it. How does the PS2 stack up as a CD player, especially when compared to dedicated units? Thanks.

The PS2 isnt bad but if you ever get a PS1 from a thrift store thats a player that has a really smooth sound, its been talked about and hyped to death, even in Stereophile.
To me Digital players only get so bad as even the most budget ones will do a exceptable job, ofcourse they can get really good to great but its a question of value and whats it worth to you as many dont think there is much difference in CD players period.

Greetings,

The PS3 has a CD player with great sound graphics, a blue ray player, a DVD player, and a gaming consule. I would say it's the best of the PS era, but to expensive for my taste.
