Pleasant Surprise Marantz plus Bose

I just pulled out a pair of Bose 401’s... yes I know and admit I have kept a set of Bose speakers since the 70’s. Anyway, I haven’t used these since 2013 or 2014. I hooked these to a Marantz MR 1170..... yes I know (dark years) but these two systems put a BIG smile on my face once I cranked them up. Of course this is in the garage, I have run out of room in the house. Bedroom system JBL C38 cabinet with 003 internals plus MCS receiver. The TV room has a Yamaha AV receiver, CerwinVega 316p speakers and Corrals. The living room system starts with a Fisher RS 1052, an Altec Lansing Vott consisting of 811 horns and 806 drivers and 416 woofers. Connected to the same receiver is a set of Altec Stonehenge 1 speakers. Why does the garage system sound so good? Bose 401’s / Marantz MR 1170, go figure?

Update; I think it was just garage acoustics. I hooked the Marantz up in place of the Fisher and wow what a difference. The Marantz had no extension, muddy base and no highs at low volume.

I had a Marantz pm 400 from around the same period that did not last long here.I can't remember the details but at the very least it was unremarkable.

Yes, the 1170 looks okay and is near mint, but I need more than woofer destroying bass. This is the only receiver I have that can make my MX 400 Cerwin Vega woofers (which are 4 ohm and 400 watt) buckle, trying to handle bass notes.

Update: Long story short, I detoxed the 1170 and wow. I had no idea this receiver could sound so good!!
