Please advise on amp for passive subwoofer

Hello all, I have purchased a JBL 4518 subwoofer cabinet with an JBL 2240 - 18 inch driver.

My intention is to use the sub for my surround system.

I am looking to purchase a stand alone subwoofer amplifier, as I do not wish to cut the JBL cabinet.

There is currently a PEAVY IPA 300T mono amplifier on Ebay for @ $150.00 .

The unit is a MONO amplifier with 300 wats RMS into 8 ohms.

It has a subsonic filter, and provides an 18 db per octive roll-off of low frequencies with the 3 db point @ 42 Hz

May I have your opinion on this amp, and if you think it will work well
for a home sub amp?

I am looking to have somthing similar to a JBL B460 sub.

Can someone please tell me what amplifier was commonly used with the JBL
B460 subwoofer?

Mike,

It sounds like that the Peavy amp is not adjustable and for that woofer the -3 dB frequency is too high. PE has sub amps that have a lot of features that give a fair amount of latitude for fine tuning adjustments. They have sales on their gear fairly often and would probably work out better, I believe, in the end.
