Please help to identify old speakers

Hi,
I’m very new. I just bought a pair of old wood cabinets that have no names. Cabinets are in very good shape. The speakers sound great.
I opened the back panel and took pictures. Here are pictures. Speaker inside says Electro-Voice Inc. Wolverine model LS-12, 12'' Full Range Loudspeaker.
Each cabinet is 30” long x 16 tall x13 deep.
Inside whole cabinet has insulation with two narrow openings on left and right. Why these narrow openings?
Outside, on the bottom panel of the cabinet, there are marks from removed 4 legs.
I know that normally speakers cabinets are vertical (tall), but these are horizontal (long and short).
Is anybody has any idea what these speakers are? Are they home-made? Any idea of their value?
Thank you.

They are just what you said, 12" full range speakers from EV. the slots let the bass out of the back side of the driver. Worth about $100 or so?

The horizontal speaker on legs was a very common set up in the fifties and sixties. I'm inclined to think that those are homemade, if only because of the beaded edge only on the top. But who knows?

Homebuilt cabs.
Without the legs, they may have been placed on a bookshelf.
Being a full range driver, the position on the baffle isn't terribly critical, particularly in that type of enclosure. AFAIK.
There are several successful enclosure designs utilizing that driver, if you should choose to DIY.
Also, there should be an abundance of info on that specific driver, if you search around a bit.

IMO It's a good solid driver, built with integrity, that has smooth roll-off on the top and bottom ends of it's range.
To date it....I would say '55-'60 or there abouts.
I could be wrong.
Haven't studied up on my EV in a while.

Regards,
John

Wow, those EVs are good sounding. They have a nice mellow punchy bass and smooth highs. I've got a pair that's also in homemade cabinets (slot-loaded). They are about 5-6 cubic feet each. But they do sound surprisingly good. They just don't take too much wattage. They were made for tubes and that's what they sound best with IMO. By the way, mine had the t-35 horn tweeters in the center of the cone. I bet yours does too.
