PLEASE HELP - Vintage Pioneer A-9 Amp needs repair!

A very long time ago (1981) I purchased a brand-new Pioneer A-9 amp and it's held up well over the years. Lately however output from the right channel has been taking longer and longer to come up... a "warm up" issue I'm sure.

As part of the first high-quality sound system I ever owned (A-9, F-9, CT-9R, SG-9 and PL-L1000 + 4 JBL R-133 Radiance series spkrs) I mortgaged my first child for it, and would love to get it repaired and back in operation.

I've not found anyone in the local area, St. Louis MO, who can troubleshoot it, and I'm not electronics-literate enough to know where to start (power amp, power assembly, or ???), although I can replace transistors and such.

Is there anyone out there who would be willing to look at it, fix it, or point me in the right direction?

1) No location listed, folks all over the country can help you out. there are qualified hobbyists and repair shops in lots of places.
2) for a pioneer repair, MarktheFixer has walked hundreds of folks through a repair here on AK
3) MTF works on the Pioneer board not this one.
4) probably get more looks if this was in Pioneer Forum for specific Pioneer help
5) probably be ok in Solid State too, getting suggestions on repair locations but
without your location, folks will be shooting in the dark with their recommendations. I have a few but no reason to recommend one that is more than half the country away.

Thank you for your input! ...forgot altogether about location, yet I'll ship it almost anywhere in CONUS to get it fixed!
 
Well you have a tech within 300 miles that can handle it but we don't know where that is. So go in and edit your profile and put some little indication as to where on this planet your Pioneer unit is located for best results. Otherwise I recommend you contact any of the repair shops listed on the right in the banner ads and ship the unit to them when they say and wait while it is repaired and returned.

Echowars is in KC and is a Japanese gear guru. Long wait, best I can tell but many that use him for repairs are very happy.

There has to be an electronics tech in the St. Louis area. Someone might post since this is in the Pioneer Forum. And of course MTF isn't far away, either, just into Illinois, a bit.
 
I'd kick off with checking the DC offset when it does eventually click out of protection. It's quite easy to do, you don't have to take any covers off and all you need is digital multi meter.

"Thank you greatly!" for the direction (and patience). A great many more leads on people and facilities than I've been able to (otherwise) "dig up"!

Thanks for your help! It does the same thing with either A or B spkrs - all work, yet it's like the right channel has to work its way out of some heavy attenuation before it puts out the same wattage...
