Could someone please identify this speaker for me?
The problem is that I could not find any name on the cabinet, grill, or at the terminals.
1. The enclosure has oak finish with round corners.
2. About 25 inch high x 14 1/2 inch wide x 12 inch front to back.
3. Black grill (looks original.)
4. Banana plug speaker connection and wires can also be tightened.
5. 3 way:Measured at the outer edge- 10 inch paper cone woofer, 4 1/2 inch midrange, 4 inch tweeter, 3 inch ported diameter x 4 inch deep.

Boy, that looks like a Leach (Georgia Tech Audio Laboratory) speaker.

Woofer would be an Eminence 10290 ("67-xxxx" (where xxxx is a 4-digit date code) and "10290" on the back of the frame or the magnet, usually on a computer-generated tag), midrange a Peerless KO40MRF, and the tweeter a Philips AD11600-T8...

If those numbers match, that's what it is... and BTW, I know the gentleman who designed that speaker (Dr. Wm. Marshall Leach of the School of Electrical Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology). I went through his Audio Engineering course while in college...

Those cabinets look like the standard Woodstyle 123s from Madisound. Would have been a logical choice to put Leach speakers into, in that era...

Regards,
Gordon.

Gordon, you nailed the mids, tweeters, and cabinets, and that does look like an Eminence woofer. if Dr. Leach is still around, do you have his email address? It'd be cool to not only confirm the speaker type, but he'd probably get a kick out of knowing one of his speaker designs is still kicking.

Thanks everyone.
GordonW, I think you are on to something because I bought these speakers
recently in suburb of Atlanta!
I am planning on refinishing the cabinet (too many scratches on the top) and one grill cover has some rip.
Sounds coming out from these speakers are very good.

I built a set of those Leach Low TIM amps and the preamp back in the 70s. They were great. I do wish I had had the opportunity to take that man's classes for sure.

Cheers,

David

OK I'm a bit drunk and emotional, but this thread just reminded me why I love AudioKarma,:music: Someone asks a question and immediately gets a very thorough and complete answer.:thmbsp:

Most other forums would have page after page of speculation, aggravation and confrontation.:thumbsdn:

As I have been known to say in the past. "Once again another speaker manufacturer that I have never seen or heard of". This always amazes me. The collective knowledge here on AK is astonishing. I really like the looks of those new acquisitions you have there. Don't forget to post an "after" picture when you are done. Nice find.
