Please let me introduce...........music I like!

Present thread is to intruduce music to other AK members through videos available on the WWW.

Rules in this thread is:
  • It has to be online video.
  • Presentation has to include from 3 to 6 videos.
  • It has to be without genres directly related to classical and rock
  • It has to be a non-english language if the videos include singing.
  • It has to be songs or tunes from the same and only artist or group of artists.

I will Start the thread up by presenting the Swedish-Dutch Folk Troubadour; Cornelis Vreeswijk

Turistens Klagan (Tourists Complaints)
Somliga går med trasiga skor (Some wear worn down shoes)
Jag Hade En Gång En Båt (I used to have a boat)
Veronica
Felicia adjö (Felicia Goodbye)
Deirdres samba

These songs are swedish.
Some of the video clips starts up with a standard intro from Swedish Song Archive Proudly Presents and this intro includes a 16 seconds long fanfare that has nothing to do with the song of Cornelis'.

Enjoy and please feel free to post more videos within the rules lined up in this post.

..........huh?...................???

I think it's a neat concept to try to introduce bands and singers that many haven't heard of..and being in the U.S. probably wouldn't unless referred to it. There are alot of fantastic foreign groups that never have popularity outside their native country. Great idea:yes:...

wish I could contribute, but I don't know too many in the jazz-folk set. Maybe a litle relaxation in the "rules", perhaps "guidelines" would be better, since some groups only have one video and such. I think alot of people could get into this...I can't too much, since most foreign type music I listen to is heavy metal :dunno:, just my taste mind you. I would love to hear what other members like though:thmbsp:.

Ok.
I will relax the rules a bit.

This rule:
It has to be from the genres jazz and folk and everything in between the two.

Is changed to this rule:
It has to be without genres directly related to classical and rock.

I also edited this in the Opening Post.

Wether I am a subscriber or not is irrelevant, Tarl Of Gor.

Lot's of music out there in spanish, indian, scandinavian, french, japanese, portugese, celtic, greenlandic, african, russian etc.
Do you have to understand what they are singing to enjoy?
No!

Come on now and widen up your taste of music a little.

I agree that it doesn't matter whether you are a subscriber or not. If you want to subscribe you will when you see fit. This is a membership site that has an option for subscription....period.

I also agree that there are too many rules for the thread to be useful IMO. Jazz and classical as well as folk intersect quite often, and with rock on occasion. The ECM label has many titles where all of the above come together.

To all of you who only can comment on rules to be too many or too strickt:

Why comment at all when it seemingly is beyond your limitations of music knowledge and music enjoyment to contribute to this thread?

It might be a slow thread or just a slow start on a thread that actually has a chance to be an interesting and inspiring one.

So far I indeed enjoyed the music linked to by "131east23".

:scratch2: I hope you have success with the thread.

Let's give the OP a break. I think what he wants is music that is not YOUR typical genre music. I am a rock-a-holic and love Jazz so I'll submit stuff that is part of my esoteric interests. The thread might get bogged down but a thread like this has tons of potential. Blake.

I think most folks are supporting his thread and wishing him well. I'm going to assume that folks were trying to be constructive, minus the comment relative to his not being a subscriber.

My only point is that many of us don't have a usual genre and that we do have varied tastes. With so many folks here at AK with vast musical knowledge folks will likely tie into areas where all the these genres or sub genres intersect and everyone, you and I alike, can learn and enjoy. The more limitations there are the less likely that is to happen. Which again, is OK with me.

That's why I hope that the thread works out, might be fun. So let's try to assume that folks were not trying to end the thread but were trying to be constructive and were wishing for the threads success.

Bring on the music!
