Please! Someone get these! (Infinity RS IIB on DC CL)

Got the Babies home. Incredible condition. The owner had them for the last 20 years since he bought them in Military base in Germany.

He had the brochure, the manual, and the original speaker wires and the equalizer (crossover).

These puppies are 70 lbs each, and it has been raining non -stop, so they are still in the Van. Will post photos soon...

Awesome score! Welcome to AK as well. Can't wait to see some pics!:D

I'm definitely jealous!!! But it's too cool that you ended up with a great pair of speakers, at an incredible price. If I'd had somewhere for them to go, we'd have battled over these!

Thanks all for all the good words!

I uploaded some photos to my profile album. See here : http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/album.php?u=73408

I have to move some things around to place them for the best sonic performance.

These are 70 lbs each. 55 inches tall, 22 inches wide and 18 inches deep.

The manual says that they should be placed
  • 2 to 3 feet away from both side and back wall.
  • 7 feet away from each other.
Not very wife friendly speakers for sure...

Can't wait to position them this weekend!

Congrats and welcome to the vintage Infinity club. What amp will you be using to drive these?

Tedrick
I am thinking of using My Onkyo Grand Integra M506 and the matching P306 PreAmp with a old faithful Rotel CD player.
Did you Bi-amp yours?

Congratulations on the incredible score! If I had those, instead of the RS IIs, I would definitely be using two amps.

Presently, my IIb's are powered by a single Forte Model 3, but I prefer them biamped with a second Model 3 or a Forte Model 4 on the EMIMs/EMITs.

Did you get the equalizer with yours?

Yes mine did come with the equalizer, the manual and the original Monster Cables as well.

This afternoon I finally hooked up the M506 amp and played at moderate volume. This set is amazing and probably the best Infinities that I have heard ever. I have to wait and buy amps for bi-amping.

My listening room is constrained of space. It is 3 ft from back wall and they are 7 ft apart, but is closer to the side walls. But despite that - it is amazing! I will have to make some adjustments and try different permutations till I get it right.

They look very nice - when is the listening party? :^)

Bi-amp? I'd consider a tube amp for the up-tops. Well actually I'd do 2 sets of tube amps but thats just me. Try a tube pre amp and another Onkyo amp...oooh-la-la ....

Cheers,

Bob

The wife was not at all pleased at the sight (and size) of the speakers when they came home and I had to call my neighbors to help move them to the basement.

But yesterday when she heard them, she was mesmerized and actually sat down and listened to some music.

Think with a little more magic and a lot more good deeds, I may be able to promote the RSiiBs to the main level...?

On a serious note - the sound stage and imaging is amazing and I cannot compare to anything I have heard in a home setting.
Yesterday - I played John McLaughlin's Shakti - Natural Elements - "Face to Face" (http://tinyurl.com/2fn7lb2). I felt that I was transported to a different world - each instrument's notes and position was so clear and the music had immense texture and vibrance. I played Diana Krall's- 'When I look in your eyes' - and the vocals were just out of the world - great depth and accuracy.

I had though that with multiple Emits - the highs may be a bit shrilly - but was totally wrong. The highs were pronounced and very well balanced. I was playing at very moderate levels, so could not assess the highs very well, but seemed a bit shy. But when I do put the right Amps I think the two 10 inch Watkins will do the right acrobatics.

Overall - they are magnificent - and I think I know where my several next evenings are going to be spent.

Yep, my goal is to (someday??) power the EMIMs/EMITs with a Mac MC275 and the woofers with one of my Forte 200 wpc amps or a big Threshold amp.

Update - I now have 2 Carver M500T amps ( Biamped) driving my RS-IIb speakers, and the difference is huge!! Everyone who has heard these are in awe and don't want to move from my man-cave.
@ HJames - I am now ready for hosting the listening party. Let me know best weekend...
