Polk 10 series - no fuse

I see a pair of Polk 10's on CL - I had a pair in the early 80s and am very tempted...the ones I had (40+ years ago! ) had fuses for the tweeters I recall..

These do not have fuses...I know they had a series of Polk 10 models ... I am not sure if these are polk 10 10A or 10b

It should say on the label in the top right, but I'd guess 10c.

I think the As and Bs had the model/serial number sticker between the 'fuse' and binding posts.
 
The 10's in some instances had 2 fuses for HF & LF & 10A's definitely had the fuse

The 10B had a fuse

I'm unsure about the 10c

Hopefully @F1nut will stop by and clarify

@kappclark, all of the Polk 10 model speakers are good in my opinion, but never heard the C's. If they are in good condition and functional I really don't think it matters much on what version they are? But, I would prefer to have a pair with the original peerless tweeters if possible. Good luck with you decision to purchase.
 
10C with the nasty SL2000 tweeter. Easy fix for that though, the RD0194-1 tweeter.

No fuse, they have a polyswitch located on the crossover. It is a resettable thermal device. A lot of folks when upgrading the crossover components (highly recommended) remove the poly and replace with a 0.5 ohm resistor to compensate for the resistance of the poly.

This is what I did when I rebuilt the crossovers in mine. The poly switches had drifted out of spec pretty far. I used a precision. .5 ohm resistors I found at Partsexpress. They also have the values needed for the other resistors if you want to replace them with precision resistors. Another pair I rebuilt the crossovers in for someone had poly switches also, but they were still well within spec. I replaced the SL-2000 tweeters in mine with the RDO-194-1's. It made a very noticable difference for the better. Smooth but detailed compared to the SL-2000.
 
Wow - good to know .. thx for the pics ...

looks like I owned the 10A's in an earlier life ... regretted selling them, but smaller living quarters helped make that decision .....

wondering if there is a resource for replacing the thermal switch with appropriate caps/resistors etc ...
 
Plenty of info on the Polk forum. Basically, pull a crossover, write down the values of the components, then place your order. Avoid Solen, Dayton and Bennic caps.

This is the schematic, but you should pull a crossover to verify.
