I bought these recently from a fella who said they were the original 7 series speakers. I've looked and seen where they were 7As and looked at a different site and looked like early production 7Bs.. Would anyone who knows about the Polk Audio monitor 7 series tell me what they exactly are? Thanks...Screenshot_20260929-162923-436 (1).jpg

Early 7B's indeed had the Peerless tweeters before they went to the SL-1000 tweeter which looked like a Peerless but was not.

I've seen enough of them that this is a good way to ID

So mine are the 7As?.. If you'll look at the second pic of my second speaker it has a higher production number but I believe still in range for the years of the 7A..Both of them have the Peerless tweeters with the dimple in the center. I don't know why the factory would have shipped two speakers with serial numbers that far apart. One speaker serial numbers are 7 19705 and the other is 7 23408..

From what little bit I've read mine are late model 7As that dropped the dual fuse setup just before the transition to 7Bs..I read that mine are what was stated as a pair of transition speakers that came with the Peerless tweeters and the aluminum structural trim rings around the mid woofer and passive radiator that came on the very early 7Bs..The more I read the more I find out that I need to read some more and reach out to people who know more about the situation than I do..LOL..

They sold a lot of these back in the day. I'm guessing the bigger stereo stores ordered these by the pallet load, and were likely not necessarily rotating stock as new shipments arrived. The average customer probably didn't notice or even care.

That makes perfect sense.

Those should sound good either way since they have the better tweeter.
I have a pair with the Peerless tweeters, single fuse. I have them in my main system at the moment. I swapped out my 10's for the 7's a few months ago.
I like them both, but I ljke the 7's a little better.

I've heard several people say they like the 7s better than the 10s..The 10s are what I'd call a "party speaker" and the 7s more of a "quality listening" speaker.

Thats partially true. The 10's and 11's do get loud and proud. My main system is tube based and up until recently when my preamp failed, I didn't have tone controls. With the 10's I just didn't need them at all. But with the 7's I do need a bit of help with the bottom end in my living room. I do have a subwoofer that just wasn't needed at all with the 10's. The 10's dig pretty deep, down to 29hz.
At the moment I'm using a SS Marantz 1060 integrated amp I restored a few years back as a preamp in my main system. Since it has tone controls I don't need the sub with the 7's either. While I really liked the tube preamp I was using that doesn't have tone controls, it wasn't cheap when I bought it new and should have lasted more than eight years. I repaired it and it developed new problems soon after, so I'm done with it. My next one will have tone controls, and be built point to point, no more PCB's.
The smaller 5jr's sound pretty good as well in a smaller room. The later version with the SL-2000 tweeters aren't the best, but they can be replaced with the RDO-194's like I did with my 10's. The 194's are very detailed and smooth sounding compared to those mylar domes of the SL-2000 tweeters.
I hqve a second pair of 10's that work fine but are kind of beat up. I'm trying to decide what to do with them. Pull the drivers and keep for spares, or make new cabinets? At the moment they're just taking up space.

Enjoy! I recapped my 7B’s and had the woofers epoxied. The proper stands make all the difference!

I received my spare speaker grills for my Polk Audio monitor 7A speakers. They look really decent and I got them at a very fair price.IMG_20261002_142807021.jpg

Nice! The last time I bought used but nice looking grills they arrived with broken baffles.
My 7's came without grills. I made my own. I mounted them so that if I ran across aome original grills I could still use them. Once I was done with the new grills I found I liked the new grills over the originals. I later attached some Popk badges.

No, I'm looking for Polk Audio monitor 7A. I'd like have one more spare set to customize. I had the ones that came with the speakers. I tried cleaning the fabric with my steam cleaner but I guess it got the MDF frames moist and they warped. I can salvage the fabric and the badges.

I'm using my AKAI SR -LA201 speakers at the moment but I'm going to swap them out and use my Polks...

Those grills look clean and they look like they fit well.
