Polk Audio Monitor 7b

Can anyone tell me about these speakers? I have a marantz 2245 receiver. I have listened to Dynaco A25’s with a similar receiver and really enjoyed it. I have also attached a picture of the speaker in particular I am looking at. Can anyone tell me what the tweeter is? Are they early? Any info would be great. Seller is asking $275. Says in perfect working order.

Early 7B's. Peerless tweeter. The best of all M7's. $275 is high unless they are mint. Offer $225 and work from there. Make sure that the main driver magnet gets epoxied in place before you move them and move them on their backs before you do that. Odds are that there is nothing but a magnetic field holding the magnets on.

rnorton is right, those are the desired ones, but the price is wayyyy too high. I paid half that for mine.

If they haven't been touched, they'll need a recap and the basket/magnets will need to be re-glued. They'll be an excellent match with your Marantz 2245. I drive mine with a Marantz 2220B from time to time.

Thanks guys, I will work him on the price. I'm going to check them out today. The market seems really high on everything here in Milwaukee right now. I was looking at nice pair of Dynaco A25's and the guy sold them for $250.00 before I even had a chance to look at them! I also have a line on some A35's for $75.00. Cosmetically they are not the best, some scratches etc. but they sound great.

Buy the A35. I had a pair and they do sound very good. I refinished the cabs on mine and traded them to a friend, only because I had no room for them.
The Polks are way overpriced, as were the A25.

Don't be surprised if this thread ends up in Dollars and Sense, and welcome to AK.

The old 7Bs are awesome, but I agree with everyone else that that price is too high. I just bought a set last weekend for $125. It really is astonishing that you can get something that sounds that good for that price, but it's true.

To add to that it's easy to improve the performance even more with a few simple modifications. :)

So I guess Patience is the key. I can't believe how many pairs of Dynacos and the like selling for $250.00 and up out there? I haven't even been able to listen to my new receiver in my home yet because I have 0 speakers right now after my move. I saw a pair of JBL 2050's for $20.00. Probably a good idea for me snap those up to keep me calm before I spend too much on something else.
