Polk Audio - Treelock - Grill Fastener

I know those that may own vintage Polk have seen these fasteners. I am trying to find a replacement or non-wooden dowel option for a broken one.

It is/was called a "treelock". Polk obviously no longer carries them. The were used to connect speaker grills to the speaker cabinet. It is shaped basically like a mushroom, and when the grill hole is placed over the part, it compresses somewhat and keeps tension on the grill so that it does not fall off. The picture is of one that is still intact, and imagine it having a small portion of it's "body" in the wood for this picture

I would say that the complete piece would be 6/8"H x 14/16"W.

Has anyone seen these on other than Polk speakers?

Anyone have an idea of where to source them from? They could very well be way out of production, but in the interests of being 100% original, I am looking.

Anyone have an alternative? No wooden dowel suggestions please

Those were also used on some Infinitys I think. I know I've run across them before.

Dave - I don't think you can get any closer than that....thanks very much for the link. I will have to pick up a couple packs just to see for sure.

There are two different sizes here http://www.solen.ca/plas.htm if the PE ones dont work. My Paradigms also use them.

Edit, those PE ones come with 12 pairs per pack FYI

G - Thanks, I will get a batch from each joint and find the best one for the stock diameters. They look the same, but you never know. Thanks for the information. I am hoping to just find the one that works well, so we will know over at the "house".

I have a few

Hey Mark. I have a few broken ones. Just the mushroon part, Can't seem to get the bottom piece out of the speaker. I have 3 that have the flat disc broken off and One that doesn't. You could put them on the surface of the speaker, it would look original but not be 100%.

I am open to selling the RTA 12C if you are interested, but shipping would be expensive and a PITA.

I feel your pain on the shipping issue, but if worse comes to worse, I have that covered.

I have found that the surface mount option is a no-go, it breaks again, and eventually your screwed. I'll work out the parts issue, and if I find a suitable replacement, and will mail you some replacements for free. At least whenever you do move them out, they will be 100%

You have to drill them out, as prying them damages the cabinet. They are not very deep, and it just takes a steady hand.
