Congrats! I once heard monitor 5's in a showroom next to which ever Polks replaced them in the lineup. No comparison to my ears. Nice scroe!
:needpics:

I'd even pay $20 for those! (and would get the same response from my wife!) Good on ya!

ps: Ironically, there's a pair of Paradigm Titans that I paid $20 for yesterday sitting in the trunk of my car waiting for the opportunity to slip past security. ;):D

Kind of funny how audio equipment security works isn't it? My grandson used to tell my wife about the trips he took with grandpa to grab whatever, then she would ask, so where is it? The funny thing is that after many years of this behavior she has located and helped me purchase some nice gear! Just sharing... :music:

Besides JBL with dome tweeters, Polks are a speaker I really enjoy. My main system involves horns, but those 5s, 7s, and 10s are really good.

I have a pair of Monitor 10's and 5jr's. The little Monitor 5 jr's are sounding really good connected to a small tube amp I built.

Love my 5jr's, great speakers. I had an opportunity to get another set that were apparently identical except without the passive radiator from the same place but passed, still kicking myself for not getting them. I'm not sure what the exact model was but they looked the same and they sounded really good too

I have both the 5's and 5jr's. I never put the two side by side but both sound great to me.
Both were bought for near nothing off CL and the local fleamarket. The 5's are on an 80's Yamaha receiver at about 80wpc in a bedroom upstairs,
the 5jr's are on an HK750 at about 50wpc in my work shop.
(I also have an early pair of 10's that sound great on a Yamaha C50/M50 preamp/amp combo, a set up that I bought complete for $200 about 10 years ago along with a pair of Rectilinear Lowboys, a pair of Infinity RSa, and a pair of Qa speakers from a guy downsizing and moving into a retirement community).

The 5jr's sound good with my tube amps too. Even with a small 3.6wpc single ended tube amp I recently built. I have a pair of monitor 10's also I like.
I was surprised at how good the little 5jr's sound.

Bought my 5’s in 1988, also purchased the stands that go with them. Recapped per Polk forum recommendations, magnets glued, replaced SL 2000 tweeters with RD0-194’s (highly recommended), Dynamat the baskets and the plate the speakers sit on. Lastly, sand filled the base. Driving them with an SX-650 that I also purchased new in 1976.
If you do all of the mods, the cumulative effect is like having a new speaker.

I've been using my 5jr's with a small 3.6wpc single ended tube amp I built.
The more I listen to the 5's, the more I like them. I'm considering doing the SL-2000 to RDO-194 swap and adding Dynamat like I did with my Monitor 10's.
At first I didn't think they were really worth spending all that much money. But I'm coming around. Here is a picture of the little amp20230205_100800.jpg I'm using them with.

I'm listening to a pair right now! They've been part of my office rig for years. Periodically I'll audition something else in hopes of finding an upgrade but they've yet to b dethroned.

I rarely pass up a deal on any vintage Polk speakers, I've had just about all of them at one point or another with the exception of the Monitor 11's.
My favorites are the 5's, 7's, and 10's.
They're speaker that punches well above its weight.

I picked up a second pair of 5jrs the other day, these with a pair of newer RD198 tweeters.
It was late in the day with a storm looming and I was at a yardsale. The guy had them marked $50.

I got them for $25, combined with two Realistic 4 way speaker selectors, a Nikko amp that needs repair, and a Technics SA 5270 that was dead when I first brought it home but I found two broken leads on the power supply board. A bit of solder and a new diode and all is well so far.

Side by side with my original pair, running a/b on the same amp, I can hardly tell the difference between these 5jrs and my original pair. .
Or at least not enough to matter to my ears. I can't say I prefer one or the other so far.
The seller said the new tweeters were about a year old with minimal use, he sold them saying he didn't like the sound with the new tweeters.
If anything, it changes how I aim the speakers into the listening area a bit.
