Polk Monitor 7 with wood veneer

I am looking for a pair of Polk Monitor 7's with wood veneer, but I'm not sure if they were ever made with real wood veneer.

Any info on which models had wood veneer from the Monitor series of speakers, and:

what price should I expect to pay for a pair with peerless tweeters with real wood veneer in excellent cosmetic condition?

Pictures would be appreciated.

Cheers

That's what I hate about my Monitor 10s. The ugly Vinyl fake rosewood covering. I love the sound and I am seriously considering veneering in walnut or cherry. I need to find an easy way to remove the vinyl.

Yea, the vinyl covering can peel & take away somewhat from the beauty of this speaker, but the sound is all that matters to me.

My 7Bs are walnut color & I paid $40 for them.

I don't think I would have paid more than $70 for them even though they are close to being in perfect condition.

The Polk logos on my pair are on the cabs instead of the grilles which I like a lot.

I have the 7As with Peerless tweeter ($80). I bought them because they sounded good. Same with my 10Bs (SL-1000, about $80) and 5s: one pair with peerless ($60) and one with the SL-2000 ($40). As far as the SL-2000, any perceived harshness or brightness has as much to do with the amp driving them as anything else.

My 7Bs have the Peerles tweeter and are walnut vinyl with the badges on the grill because the grill covers the whole face. Paid about $500.00 for them new when I lived in Ottawa. My 5As also have the Peerless tweeters, the 10Bs have the new replacement tweeters.

I doubt that any of them were ever done in real wood veneer. Vinyl can be peeled off with a heat gun. The 10Bs were rather scruffy so I peeled the old vinyl and redid them in Red Maple vinyl to match the CR-800 in the shop.

Back in 1985 I bought a pair of Monitor 10B in vinyl discounted at $575. The walnut veneer option was $100 more.

Nothing like real wood. That vinyl is basically the drawer liners used in a 1975 trailer kitchen.:D

...Although I'm going to say the SL2500 can be pretty harsh with a variety of amps. The Monitor 7 series II I had were, for me, practically unlistenable. In comparison, my 5As sounded fine with the same sources.
I tried my Monitor 7As with Peerless my Onkyo TX-SV909Pro, an Audio Video receiver, and thought I might need to do the recap that was recommended at Polk Audio forums. But they sounded great with my Technics SU-V9 (mellows out a lot of speakers) and Kenwood KA-7300 (warm rich). Harman Kardon PM665 (very neutral and "live" sound).

I only recently got my Monitor 5s with the SL2000 tweeters and they sound very good with the KA-7300. I might even prefer the SL-2000 because they seem brighter in a good way with more dynamics.

I have the 5As with peerless tweeter hooked up to my Sansui 4000 and I might give the edge to the Kenwood and SL2000 combo -- maybe.

The Onkyo was fine with the SL-1000 tweeters on my Polk 10B.

None have the SL-2500 so I can't say.

I got my Monitor 7A's used about 2 years ago for 60 clams. They are an excellent match with my NAD 7020, especially with vinyl as the source.
