Polk SDA-1C Restoration?

Alright, my replacement S2000s arrived a couple days early and I managed to get myself a B&K 4420 amp to drive these.

Seems like the woofers with the ridged cones are actually GW 206/4s. Not sure how close those are to the original drivers, but I am going to be keeping an eye out for some MW6511s to replace them.

They sound pretty decent so far, definitely need to rearrange my room so I can get them into a proper listening position...
 
Alright, after more listening I noticed some funky noises from two of the woofers.

Sounds like the coil for one is rubbing no matter where on the cone I press (including the cap).

The other one sounds like I'm shaking a can of nails, so I assume its toast.
 
It could be that the magnets have shifted. There is a thread here somewhere detailing how to realign them. Its a good idea to run a.few beads of epoxy between the back plate and ferrite ring at leased on the two good ones.
 
After doing some reading and taking a second look, it is 100% magnet shift for the speaker with the scraping sound. Assuming I am not busy this weekend I'll follow that thread and try my hand at repairing it.

Still need to track down 4 replacement 6511s (or the aftermarket version midwest makes). Time to start watching ebay!

Alright, its been a long time since the last update, but I decided to wait until I got everything thrown together.

Over the past few months I've:
  • Bought 4 used 6511's from ebay. They're working well.
  • Repaired the 6511 that had a rubbing voice coil. Didn't go perfectly, but it seems to work fine. Still keeping my eyes out for another replacement just in case.
  • Bought a pin and blade interconnect cable.
  • Bought some gear to actually drive these
    • B&K Reference 4420 Amp
    • B&K PT3 Preamp
    • Schiit Modi 3+ DAC

Excuse the mess as I had to rearrange my entire room to find a place to actually put these...
Hoping to build a rack to hold the amp, preamp, and DAC sometime in the near future.

Loving the speakers so far, though, they sound amazing.

If you are able the best SDA set up as follows. 6 to 8 feet apart, 5 to 6 inches off the back wall and at least 3 feet away from side walls.

Don't have quite enough space yet, but I have more stuff in my room to move this weekend. Currently they're on the longest uninterrupted run of wall available lol.

Eventually I want to have these in front of my desk. My sitting position would put me around 6' away from the speakers. It's a 17' wall, so there should be plenty of room to either side.
