Poll: acquiring more vintage gear

Have only done a couple of preamps in say the last 4 or 5 years.
My thinking is that, after the speaker systems and source, the preamp has the most impact on system sound.
I am in a selling mode, and have let go some gear I REALLY liked. Now I am down to some smaller things (still, the amps at 150 wpc aren't so little) that I should find new homes. Would eBay, and I have sold a couple of pieces on eBay, but boxes--yes, shipping boxes!--are what keeps me from putting up more gear.
I currently have 5 stereos in some use. That is actually too many. Darn. I love the fact I have options, though :yes:

Having been here for a bit now; I know what is good and pretty much what to pass on; I am excited to find anything vintage; be it for my system or to turn a few bucks if I don't want it. With the luck I have at Goodwill lately, hmm.... garage sales!

I find going out and looking is a waste of time. If I happen to come across a bargain I'll buy it, clean it and give it away. I have a few pieces I want and when I have the money I'll get them. I did see a unit yesterday a member here was selling on ebay that I'd love to have. Reserve was not met as well.

I'm pretty much finished buying vintage gear, at least for the time being. Lately I've been doing some tweaks on my HT and media server. As an example yesterday I passed on a Sony TT, a PS-X600 (I think that's the model) with 66 lp's all in nice shape for $15. Somebody kick me please. But I'm constantly checking my local craigslist for that killer Sansui combo. You never know when a BA-5000, CA-3000, and TU-9900 will show up for $500!

Ninety percent of what i have came from thrifts.I only buy now if it is an upgrade.When you have a 9090db,r-117 or 2330b you don't upgrade very often buying from the thrifts.I find myself spending more time switching stuff around more than actually enjoying the music which is not what i want to do.As was mentioned earlier I want to spend more time enjoying what I have.Of course I won't pass up a steal whether it be a sx 636 for $10 or some Cornwalls for $100.

I don't buy awhole lot of stuff anymore in fact I'm thinning out the collection.

But when something I like and it's relatively rare and the price is good I'll get it.

I just got another one of these "ugly receivers." Why? Because I like the looks and it sounds pretty darn good.

I'm at the point where I'm set and happy. The last three loads of gear I've gotten where free. I have a few units that need repair, though their value is less than the cost of fixing them. I will likely save to fix the Layafette reciever I got two weeks ago. It came from a beloved family member and I'd like to see it working, just because...

I buy any vintage piece I find that I think it a good deal.

I am a collector over a user, so I collect. I probably spend more time fixing stuff up than using it, because I admittedly like the gear more than music. Although I listen to a lot of music, I don't particularly care to own super accurate stereos or anything like that. It doesn't take much sound quality to make me happy, but I get a great sense of satisfaction when putting a piece of gear I have fixed up on display or in my main system and hear it play.

I don’t tend to have lots of money for large spontaneous purchases. My gear has mostly come from friends/family that has given it to me for free, chance flea-market purchases (SX-1050 for $10, etc), and stuff I’ve actually sought after and bought on craigslist for a fair price (refoamed L100T’s for $275, etc).
