Pondering about market trends

Hello folks!
I just stumbled across this following ad and wondered - Are people willing to pay these prices for a non-special item like this? It doesn't have any affiliation with special character/ celeb etc, It's definitely not any kind of 'High-End' unit and so on. I see these type of ads becoming more frequent and I'm kind of worrying about it - with all the respect for older audio equipment, I don't think these types of items are so rare or worth any exceptional value, even if we're talking only about nostalgia.
I would like to have your opinions :)

In my opinion, no. The seller looks like an antique dealer. They probably couldn't find much info online (I didn't bother looking, and while that's a pretty common turntable, I've never heard of the system brand) and assumed that since it was antique audio it had some value. They probably didn't do much research, since here's a very similar item (no affiliation) at a much more reasonable price.
 
Another one is offered for 150 on the same action site.....I presume I would sell easier than the 1200 one.
 
Old saying that there's a fool born every minute that's been going around for longer than that record player has. The beauty of the internet I suppose is it's much easier to cast a wide net and find those fools out there.
 
Completed sales are the ones to check to gauge the market. That seller is dreaming.
 
I have watched pcs of audio sit and sit and sit forever with a price no one should pay. Then one day it is sold. Wrong very wrong to do people like that. But wrong is going on all over the place lately. I got a rant I want to post where would I post that or should I just stuff it? Maybe I should keep it under the radar.

Simply means that people will put up a pc of audio gear or an LP forever until someone comes along and pays the price that is way too much for the pc (or LP) or whatever audio related pc. It is like going fishing you sit in any spot long enough and eventually you will catch a fish, hope that helps you.

Okay, why is that a bad thing? If you want to flip something quick, you give a lower price. If you don't care how long it sits, you ask full price. Sounds to me like sour grapes because the owner wouldn't give it away to you.
 
It just a wild ass eBay listing.

Suitcase record players were fetching $150 a few years ago.

Even the $150 then was amazing.

It is eBay and there is wild potential. You would not believe the prices I get for weird crap.

Stuff like this is not in the class of stuff of interest on AK.
 
Only one that is actually sold went for $45, 1 bid. As stated above, antique dealer with 5,000+ listings throwing up a stupid price with"Best Offer" - seems to be the way that one operates.
 
If something is a good price and you want it buy if not move on pretty simple really. Either the seller will figure out the price is too high and lower it or not, I see crazy prices all the time every so often I look to see if the seller has everything of theirs priced high or if they ever sell their over priced stuff out of curiosity.

This is the way I look at it too. If the seller wants to price stuff to the moon and hope they catch a big fish in however long it takes then that's on them.
I personally only sell to make room or when I'm done playing with stuff so I price to move but there have been a few times when I was on the fence about selling something so I priced it high. When it moved I figured it was meant to be and was happy for the new owner and my audio upgrade fund.
