It's really unclear if the cabinets have been altered. Obviously, there's something up with the woofers. Appears they may have had the later style cast frame woofers that were replaced when the foams went bad(the black residue on the baffle).

The woofer on the left looks like it could be a correct early stamped basket woofer used as a replacement. Really hard to be sure without better pics or seeing them in person. But, they don't appear to have been hogged out to accept a 15 inch woofer like some i've seen.

15s are a helluva speaker. Other than the mismatched woofers, that set looks to be in pretty nice shape. The pair I have were previously used as "road speakers" by a DJ buddy & look it.

Looks to me as if both speakers have had their woofers replaced with something a little smaller, see what appears to be gasket material or something? maybe both cast frame drivers have been replaced with stamped basket woofers? hell I don't have the money so.. whatever.

Both woofers look to be replacements to me.

That's not all bad if you can get them for a decent price because the hardcore Altec guys don't care for foam surrounds anyway and suggest replacing the woofers with "real Altec" drivers. The model 15 woofers are the same as used in the model 14's so they are not rare and can be found for a decent price.

I wouldn't figure more than $300 into the total value for those model 15's since you'll have to put another $2-300 or more into them either way.

They might look the same from the front.

woofer 33785 was in a stamped steel frame for a brief period before going to a cast frame with a 1 inch wide mounting rim. It was used in the model 9, model 15, stonehenge II, and santana II.

woofer 34633 has 50% more magnet, a larger voice coil, and increased power handling. It was used in the model 14 and 9842 studio monitor.

Sorry, my bad. Same size so they will mount in the 15 cabs.

I think your a bit light on the cost of the woofers. I ebayed a pair freshly reconed, which was done by GPA and not cheap. I sold for $325 probably could have held out fo a bit more but was hurting for money. They really do not come up that often but that single for 180 has been sitting out there for a long time. Either way to get proper woofs it will not be cheap unless you get real lucky
