pop when switching in speakers on a cap coupled amp

I'm looking at an Akai AS-970, ancient quad amp. It works, haven't stressed it with anything but the AM tuner (which works nice).
When I switch the speakers in, I get a pretty loud pop on my bench speakers.
Basic question is, I'm used to working on direct coupled amps. Is this pop an indication of coupling cap issues, or is it a sign of an unhealthy amp section?

I think once the discharge happens, things stay normal.Or you may bleed the charge having the switch on when it's powered and the speaker on at power.I have seen it discharge slow, with no speakers, and nothing for other amps.
Beyond that, I dunno.

This pop is normal because the output capacitor needs a current, usually through the speaker, to charge to his operating DC voltage.

If your amp has terminals for two sets of speaker and you use only one set, you can install a resistor on the terminals for the second set of speaker and use this resistor to charge the capacitor.
