Positive polarity wire on jbl 125a on l26 and l36

Sorry if this is stupid but new to this.

I have some jbl l36’s and trying to verify high wire from crossover is positive.

I believe the male spade terminal
On the l125 a is positive.

the crossover feeds the l125a with a green wire and a black wire. Which one is the positive that goes to the male Spade Terminal On the woofer.

If I’m way off on this please share. Find it strange that black wire would be positive.

Best way to check is take a AA battery 2 wires connect to the speaker.
The Positive from the battery will make the cone move out from the front of the speaker if
You have the positive speaker terminal.
Won’t work on tweeters. It Could damage them . Same with small Mids
 
To forgot to add it’s not that easy to check from the Xovers as most will change the polarity
 
Not unusual for some JBLs of that era for black to positive.
Hi Fi Engine has many JBL speaker manuals and literature on file. Most of their basic owners manuals had wiring diagrams.

thanks. I did that test and determined which terminal is positive on the woofer. It’s a male slip connector, the female is negative.

im trying to Determine which wire is positive from the crossover. I had a black wire and a green wire to choose from and neither had terminals. To make things worse, the woofer that was in there had the green wire to the woofer and I believe that is wrong but I want to verify.

I hooked the geeen wire to the positive terminal and the speaker sounded good however when I went to wire the other woofer, someone had written b below the positive terminal and g below the negative speaker terminal. This leads me to believe the other woofers were connected in reverse polarity.

I was hoping a jbl expert could tell me if the black lead is in fact the positive lead. Thr attached photo shows how the realistic woofer was wired. I just bought rebuilt 125a’s to install in their stead and return the speakers to their glory.

The easiest way is to trace the wiring from the speaker input terminals, through the crossover, to the drivers. If you had the crossover schematic, you might find that the negative lead is common between the speaker terminal and the woofer (don't know if this is the case here because I did not look for the schematic).

Tracing the path through the crossover is a good way to learn how crossovers are wired.
 
The main thing is to make sure both speakers are the same. Do a sound test on the same Song over and over again.try reversing the woofers. you might or might not hear a difference.
 
And usually you can check the polarity by
Using a D cell on the main speaker
Terminals.
Positive battery to the red should move the woofer
Out if correct
