Possible DIY Idea

I was wondering if anyone had ever done this...

I am pondering taking the components froma "kabuki"-ish speaker like the Pioneer CS99A or 88A and re-engineering it into a more standard two- or three-way.
I am from the school of thought that simpler is better. Old Pioneer speakers seem to be built of well-made components but they are over-engineered.

Anybody done this?:scratch2:

The best option is to start from scratch driver-wise, but you can use the cabinets. :) Just fill the old wood-holes in.

OR, save up for a pair of Pioneer HPMs, which are 10 leagues above the CS series.

Diy..........

Hi PioneerGuy,
We spoke of this about a month ago, Yes, used CS99 woofers in a DIY
project, also using 1980 BSR cabs, Ohm C-2 xovers, resealed cabs with
carpet foam, JBL LX55 mids, and 24mm VIFA tweets,......Although I have
many excellent speakers, I use these in my studio for 'work' listening, and
find them to be a pleasant, clear sound, with little in the way of the muddy
thumpiness of the original BSR's.....The combination of parts are equally nice
for the types of music I frequently listen too, including Folk, Blues, Jazz, R&B,
and 70's rock....Any other questions I can answer, just ask.....Cheers!
PS, I mounted the CS-99's externally, since the cabs did not have a removable back panel.........
