Possible Monster Receiver Guy sighting?

I came across a post earlier describing an infamous CL seller and immediately thought of a similar interaction I had several weeks back. I sent an email asking for details on this ad: https://louisville.craigslist.org/ele/d/indianapolis-vintage-yamaha-system/7040605418.html

The first response was "you have a number to call", to which I replied there was not one in the ad. It became apparent that he was attempting to ask a question but didn't use a question mark. I exlained but he was already started on a string of sarcastic emails calling me son, a scammer, bragging about how much gear he owns and that he didn't care if it sold. I gave up after a few but he continued to mail me for the next hour.

Does that look like a known location of Mr Gary on the craigslist ad?

Wow, sounds like a monster. May well be the gem himself.

I too wasnt aware of this asshole till the thread I'm guessing your also referring to.

I've come across some real nuts in the vintage audio scene but MRG deserves a trophy for his level. Or preferably a lobotomy.

Looks like upChuck to me.

He'll probably get bored and try again tomorrow, seems to poke for a while until he's sure you're dead and won't play.

Been there done that. It wasn't a pleasant experience I can tell you that. I used to flag all of his listings but then I figured that he was miserable enough so I didn't need to add to it.

MRG-Odd one for sure. Needs help for whatever they diagnose him with. Smells like teen spirit alright , but mostly cat urine and other animal feces.
This add seems too thought out, with larger words and longer sentences for Chuck.

Chuck sometimes mimics others' ads, although he might miss some of the spelling they can seem like he has a mid to higher 2-digit IQ at times.

I don't miss the experience, don't EVER give him your real name, email, phone number, ... even if you suspect it is him.

How he is still able to post on CL!
Local Indy PD must get phone calls of victims.

I know of a few who have sent "911" to CL and called PD on him over the years.

Yes never send your real email phone # name out.
He may well post a ad for you without your knowledge with the info!

I see a BIG Sansui G-22000 or 330000, thinking about contacting him, always wanted one of those.

I'm kidding.
One of his old phone numbers (not sure if it's still working) was on an internet list of harassing numbers to avoid.
There were that many complaints.

What happens if you actually attempt to buy the thing?
LOL why dont you try it. Go on!

Be prepared to have your phone number called 50 times from a blocked number until you pick up. When you don't pick up, because you've suddenly realized he is bat **** crazy, the emails and taunting text messages will start. Photos of his "I've got a bigger johnson than you" collection will start flooding in. He will describe in detail what he did with your dead mother's body, which truck stop your dad gets with truckers at, and how much of a scamming flipper liar peice of general scum you are.
Oh, and your name and phone number gets plastered all over craigslist trying to convince others not to sell to you yadda yadda blah blah...
But if you dont believe us, by all means, do try and post the responses here

A few of the unlucky ones to have actually somehow been able to navigate his nutso long enough to buy something from him have ended up with speakers that were rubbing from a bad refoam job or damaged/not as described "mint" condition junk. There are a few threads on here where some people actually had stuff shipped to them and it arrived broken and nowhere near what his lies about condition were. Oh, and 99% of his stuff isnt one owner like he claims it is, he finds it at goodwill and flea markets where he frequents taking his pet albino snake on walks in a pillowcase (yes....this is really a true story.)

I mean, I have a burner phone. But it's this some sort of bored old man schtick or have people actually completed a sale with him?
On the occasion that he may be actually medicated, a few people who were willing to pay his insane prices for subpar equipment and endure a fair bit of mental abuse, yes a very small few people have actually purchased things from him. For the most part he has had the same crap for "sale" on craigslist for over 5 years, which should be quite telling by itself what hes really up to. He also is widely known to purposefully post fake ads pretending he doesn't know what he has or priced too good to be true to "lure in" "flippers" so he can have his way with them.

If you're a sadomasochist looking for an expensive thrill I would have to think there are better options than trying to deal with this weirdo.

Go for it!
What's the worst that could happen.

And if you do, ask about the big Sansui, tell him you have a flipper friend* who is interested but doesn't have a phone, computer, or mailbox.

*Truth be told I haven't sold a piece of audio gear in around 40 years.
But he doesn't need to know that. He hates flippers so do it just for the grins and giggles.

I had a similar situation a couple of months ago. I work for an archiving company and we were looking for empty 10.5" NAB metal reels. A guy in Indy had some listed and before I left work on Friday I contacted him about price. I'd gone out of town and checked email Sunday morning. The guy had already left six very angry emails accusing me of trying to scam him by not responding and trying to bring down the price. Stating I had done this to him several times before and threatening to call the police for elder abuse.:dunno: I tried to explain only to receive more trash emails. In my last message I told him he was a very angry person and I no longer wanted to deal with him. I told him not to respond that I wouldn't read it and said I hope he feels stupid when he realizes he's wrong. I saw about a half dozen more messages, but didn't bother to open them. Same guy?
